4th Dan, Matayoshi Kobudo
Sempai Scott began his karate training in Warragul in 1985 before moving to the Goulburn Valley in 1987. He trained in Shepparton until 1992, then commencing at the Numurkah dojo under Doyle Sensei. Scott has trained in Okinawa on six separate occasions to refine his skills under the guidance of Shigotoshi Senaha Sensei and Takehiro Gaja Sensei, helping to bring a wealth of knowledge to the Numurkah dojo. Following in the footsteps of Doyle Sensei’s teachings (that a true karateka is one 24 hours a day, not two nights per week), Scott trains every morning with Hojo Undo and Gracie Jiu-Jitsu (when he is not training at Numurkah Doho), and most nights at his private home Dojo.
3rd Dan,
Goju Ryu Ryusyokai
1st Dan, Matayoshi Kobudo
Sempai Glen has been training in Goju since 2003 at 12 years old, training at the Numurkah Dojo under Doyle Sensei, Grandell Sensei and Butler Sempai.
As part of his training in karate and kobudo, Glen has also trained in four years of Jiu-Jitsu, and regularly adds weight training and functional fitness to supplement his development. Glen has a holistic view of his training, and passionately believes in the integral part that effective karate training plays in one’s health, lifestyle and longevity.
Glen’s passion as an instructor is to inspire new and existing karateka, both children and adults, to better their karate training and integrate it into their lives as a whole.
The strength of the Goju Ryu Australia Okinawa Goju Ryu Ryusyokai style of karate is in its balance of historical traditions with modern-day approaches. Goju Ryu (meaning ‘hard-soft style’) is the basis of our system. A theory that has been expanded over centuries, its roots are traceable to the small island of Okinawa.
On numerous occasions our team of instructors have trained in Okinawa, the birth place of karate. They bring a wealth of knowledge to students who wish to learn traditional Okinawan karate do and instill life skills in discipline, respect, self-control, coordination and self defence.
We have established a karate dojo that follows the traditional teaching methods with a modern approach to exercise and body mechanics, while always conforming to martial art principles.
